On Sunday 30th June 2024, we once again demonstrated the power of our community dedication and charitable giving by hosting our bi-annual Charity Family Fun Day and 5-a-side football tournament. This year’s event, held in memory of our beloved colleague Jane Blampied, was dedicated to supporting the East Anglian Air Ambulance—a vital service that touches countless lives across our region.
The day was eventually blessed with bright skies and a palpable sense of camaraderie as 23 teams from various local businesses and organisations gathered to compete. The tournament’s competitive spirit was matched only by the enthusiastic support of families, friends, and football fans who attended in droves, transforming the event into a true celebration of community and charity.
In a thrilling finale, Newmarket-based Excel Carpentry, run by Nick Burrows emerged victorious, clinching the Edmondson Hall trophy from the reigning 2022 champions, Contour Roofing.
However, the day was not just about football. Other activities included bouncy castles, face painting and arts & crafts provided by The Stable Newmarket for the children and live music for the adults.
The highlight of the day was the heartfelt tribute to Jane Blampied by her husband Simon at the trophy presentation. Her family were present, sharing poignant memories that underscored the importance of community and the far-reaching impact of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Thanks to the generous contributions from participants, spectators, and sponsors, the event raised over £3,000 for the charity. This financial support will aid the Air Ambulance in continuing its critical work, ensuring rapid response and medical care to those in urgent need.
Events like these are a powerful reminder of the strength and unity within our community. They showcase the best of what we can achieve when we come together for a common cause. Here’s to the enduring spirit of our community and to many more such events that bring us together for the greater good. Congratulations to Excel Carpentry, and a heartfelt thank you to all who participated and supported this wonderful cause.
